what causes time zones to differ the more west you go it's one hour behind...............

The earth is round and the time is gaged by when the sun hits your part of the earth.  So time starts at Greenwitch England.

That's one, then as the sun hits other sections of the earth they get morning.  When New York wakes up to 7 AM.

We are at 6AM and California is 4 AM and then it goes to Hawaii.

Raises in the east and sets in the west.

The way time zones happen to have been arranged causes the time to differ.

Time zones are set up to account for the rotation of the Earth, otherwise it would be pitchblack in California at 9AM when the East coast has already been up for three hours.
