Also what is considered an average pay rate, and what is a high pay rate? I am curious because I live in Australia and the minimum rate here for an adult is about $15-16 and if you work in the supermarket you get paid around $20 an hour

  1. The federal minimum wage is currently $6.55/hr and will be raised to $7.25/hr next July.  Many states have higher minimum wages than the Federal Minimum wage.

The average wage according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics is $19.56/hr.   http://www.bls.gov/oes/current/oes_nat.h...

I would consider a high rate of pay to be over $30/hr.

Keep in mind that one Australian Dollar is worth about .87 U.S.

  2. Depends on state. California 7.50

  3. In my state the minimum wage is $8.07 per hour...definately not nothing to brag about but its money and better than being a loaf. Thank goodness for me I have a job that pays more than twice that amount. When I see how much your wages are in Australia it makes me wonder, are you being paid in American dollars?? Or is $15 an hour in Australia equal to $8 American?? Besides, I hear that Levi jeans in Australia are close to $100 a pair and here in America I can buy Levi's for $30...so I dont think its a good comparison of countries due to the value of the dollar.
