While some species mate for life, generally, I think the male is not selective.  Most animals react to natural impulses.  They don't have those human attributes of thinking through a selection process.

When having a chat to my animal friends the guys usually say looks are important.  My bird friends like a lady with a good beak and so on.  So yes they are picky, but not after a few drinks.
