  1. The Bohr effect is in place so that tissues can get an adequate supply of O2 when they are metabolising. This is because they release CO2 and concentration of this affects the affinity of Hb to oxygen

    If the concentration of CO2 is high, it promotes the T state of Hb, so its affinity for oxygen is reduce, so it will be released.

    If the concentration of CO2 is low, then oxygen will remain bound to Hb.

    This means that low CO2 makes it easier for Hb to combine with O2
