  2. The moral point of the book is that once you give into moral turpitude, you've wondered down a slippery slope. The more you allow yourself to indulge in evil, the easier it is to give yourself over to those impulses. While Dr. Jekyll thinks he's overcome the temptation of being Mr. Hyde, like any addict he's simply suppressed the personality for a time. Eventually as Mr. Hyde, Dr. Jekyll is vanquished by the declaration that he's no more.
