  1. read it

  2. It has been a couple years since I have read this book (one of my favs), but I'm fairly sure there is a part where Pip tries to kiss the girl at Mrs. Havisham's place. I know he ends up getting slapped in the face, but he showed courage by trying to kiss a girl who was clearly out of his social class.

  3. Sounds like you're trying to answer a high-school essay question. If this is the case then good luck, I'm sure they make most of that stuff up. It totally destroyed my love of poetry for about ten years, until I realized that most of the questions were thought up by some bureaucrat whose main aim was to come up with syllabus so they could keep their job. Don't let this unnecessary tearing apart of literature dis-hearten you.

However, as to the question (and it's been a good few years since I read it), I think you'll find that he showed courage by getting out of the social situation in which he was trapped. This is England in the 1700's, you simply didn't leave your village and go off to improve your social standing. You didn't associate with a wealthy (albeit mostly lost wealth) family like the old lady. He showed courage again when he helped the convict bloke escape(or did he get caught again?) at the end of the book. Remember he had to break the law to get him back onto the ship, running past customs officials etc. I seem to recall they didn't make it but he was under no obligation to do that. A less courageous man would've dumped the convict on the police and walked off with his social standing intact.

So there you, although you might want to cross reference all of these claims with the actual book, which you've read more recently than have I.

  4. Well, in the very beginning of the book he brings food to the scary escaped convict.
