he likes soft things because he liked touching things that feel nice. He likes puppies, but also silk and soft hair, which lands him in a lot of trouble, as we all know. he loves rabbits, loves the idea of owning them and having responsibility for them and being able to touch them whenever he wants, even though he's only ever seen rabbits at the fair.
