  1. According to my own experience, two rooks are better than a queen.

The queen might be the most powerful piece but if she's against two rooks and nobody makes a mistake, she will have a hard time checkmating the opposing king.

Each time I end up with my queen and I'm against two rooks, I try to get a draw by repetive moves and then, I feel lucky because two rooks can easily checkmate a King (or the lost of one rook of my opponent means the loss of my queen and the loss of the game).

  2. The rooks are must powerful when they are on the same rank or file. If they are not then the queen has some chances to take advantage of this. Obviously a passed pawn(s) for either side could greatly influence the game.

  3. With only two rooks, you MUST be careful because a queen can rush the rooks and, if you make just ONE LITTLE MISTAKE... the queen will win.

  4. If there are no pawns?  who has the initiative?  I'd ask for a draw.

  5. I will take 2 rooks over a queen.

  6. I never won with a queen against two rooks but I lost many times so I think it's always better to have two rooks than to have a queen.

(Now, it you have some pawns involved, the situation is different, depending on the pawns' position).

  7. Queen and pawn are normally equivalent to two rooks. This means that queen plus pawn vs two rooks is drawn., but queen and two pawns vs two rooks is won by the side with queen the two pawns. With even pawns or at least one pawn up the two rooks win.

  8. A Queen is really just a rook and a bishop combined. So you really are comparing 2 rooks to 1 rook and 1 bishop. I would rather have the 2 rooks as they are more powerful than bishops since they can potentially reach more squares in a single move.

  9. It really depends because if your opponent have a few squares from the edges then 2 rooks but is he or she is close then i really doesn't matter.

  10. its generally a draw, but it depends on king safety and pawn structure, especially connected pawns and outposts for the rooks
