  2. To use some movie metaphors; you are star, director, writer, and  produce rall rolled into one. the students are the audience.

As an instructor myself ( but at the college level), I see myself more as a facilitator.  I'm there to supplement the learning.  I think my students tend to learn more from each other.  I ASSUME that they read the materials and I let them teach each other and I supplement the learning.  We do a round-table discussion of sorts.  Having been a student and teacher, I tend to believe that sometimes, teachers can "talk above" the students.  And sometimes it's good to get everyone's thoughts and ideas.

I teach elementary and my main job is to facilitate learning.   I do NOT stand and talk most of the time.  I have students working together to discuss, explore, and construct their understanding of the lesson. I also think it's important to establish a learning environment in which students can  safely make mistakes and learn from the mistakes in an effort to gain understand.
