I am REALLY considering joining the USCG but I have a problem! I got a german shepherd puppy about 5 months ago. I get attached very easily so I can't just give him away. I was wondering if your aloud to have dogs in government housing for the coast guard and will there ever be a time when they place me in a home that doesnt allow pets and so oh well your scr**ed! I was also wondering if anyone can give me an idea of what the bases are like. I live an hour away from cape may are they all like that?? Thank you in advance!! Also Should I finish school first?

  1. Cape May is unique as that is boot camp.  Dogs are allowed in Housing, but not in barracks.  If you're single, a dog is difficult to maintain, and you're more likely than not to be in places where you won't be able to have one.

  2. You can't join the USCG without a high school diploma. You should finish college before you join USCG because then you might be able to qualify to be an officer.

Dogs aren't allowed in barracks. also, if you are deployed on a cutter for some time, who is going to take care of it when you are gone?

  3. if you really want to join the USCG, i suggest you finish school. you will have a better choice of career path, but remember, it's your choice.

as for the puppy, i don't think they allow it, but I don't know for sure.

    hope that helped!
