A friend of mine was talking about his old CB radio and what his "handle" was....it was like a blast from the past. I had one....in fact living in the new forest area it was used as a lifeline. - Anyone here willing to own up to having one back in the day...and if you did what was your handle....mine was Quality Street ----(everybody's favourite)

  1. I have no direct experience of CB, but I knew a few who did. From what they told me it seemed to consist largely of talking to people they didn't know in un-neccessary gibberish ABOUT talking to people in un-neccessary gibberish.

So, in answer to your question, that would be a NO...

  2. Yep i had one...both in the car and a home base unit, with a h**l of an echo chamber on it!! (the car had one to) (lol)

my handle was Van Halen (and in those days it wasn't) that sad as only the metal heads knew who VH was...

  3. YES. I had a Jaws Mk II in the car and a President Adams as base. My handle was Bald Eagle and Bravo Echo 27 for DXing.

I had a 5/8 wave twig on the car and a silver rod for the base, I also had a 25watt burner in the car. Great Days.

  4. I did and "Ice Cream Man" Was my handle I was on the legal band from '81 to '83.

  5. Yes and I still have them. Both legal FM and illegal Am sets.

Although I haven't talked for ages, but it was a great way to talk to friends for FREE!

Sorry can't give my Handle as I use it for some of my passwords now as I was so unique.

  6. I had one and so did my mother, my handle was 'Slinky Jane' and my mothers was 'Cornflower', sadly she passed away last year aged 96 but she really enjoyed it. Great fun when there was no PCs just TV and radio. We helped a lot of drivers round and about our area I think we were the first kind of Sat Nav.

  7. I started out with a Sharp 40, the a president 40 - ended up with a ham international concord in the car and a jumbo as a base station at home.  Built a few di-pole antenna's but cannot recall what my antenna at home and mobile were called.
