  1. Animal's and plants act to balance themselves within the environment.

Plants are capable of producing energy on their own. Using the process of photosynthesis they can create and store energy.

Animals, on the other hand, need to consume energy because they can't create it themselves. Subsequently the animals eat the plants to harvest the plant's energy. This occurs in equilibrium, that is, a proper balance between plant life and animal life.

Equilibrium will happen because the animals require energy to live and there are only so many plants available.

So, plants will continue to grow and multiply if they are left untouched. But, animals will consume these plants for energy. However, if the animals consume too much, then there will be too few plants to feed the animals.

The balance takes place because you can only have a certain number of animals eating plants or else there will not be enough food to go around. And the quantity of plants you have reflects the number of animals around because the animals control the plant population.

Hope that helps, its hard to type it out clearly because the plants depend on the animals and the plants!
