http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TM-Dilshan-c2691, the captain of Sri Lankan cricket team, played his trademark, ‘scoop-shot’, after a year, in the first T20 International played against Australia, yesterday, on August 6, 2011.
The match was played at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, where the Australian captain, Cameron White, won the toss and asked the hosts to bat first.
Dilshan played an impressive knock of 104 runs off just 57 deliveries, studded with 12 boundaries and 5 sixes. There he employed his trade-mark scoop shot after a period of almost a year.
Scoop shot is played over the wicket-keeper’s head and now it is named after Dilshan and called Dil-scoop.
The Sri Lankan captain had not played this shot and was not even practicing it for the last one and a half year. The skipper said that the discussion with the new coach http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rumesh-Joseph-Ratnayake-c87108 motivated him to play this unique shot in the
match against Aussies. He was reluctant to play it but then the coach asked him to go for it as it may yield good results.
Dilshan said, “I haven't practiced the 'Dil-scoop' for the past one and a half years but yesterday we had a chat with Rumesh and he asked why I wasn't playing it, I told Rumesh you might see me play it tomorrow. I had the confidence
to play it. It worked and I think after I played the Dil-scoop they changed the field and I felt easier to score more runs in other areas.”
Cameron white, the Australian T20 captain said that he was baffled with the shots Dilshan was playing and admitted that he was continuously changing fielding positions which may have further benefitted the batsman.
White admired Dilshan’s performance and said that he is the sole reason, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/HMRKB-Herath-c1559 did not let them reach the target
and cost them the first match.
Dilshan expressed his joy over this success and said that he is happy with the overall team performance.
The captain also admired the newly appointed coach and said that no International coach had applied such techniques before which Rumesh has employed. Dilshan added that the coach had come up with new ideas, tactics and strategies
and the most commendable aspect of his coach is his detailed planning.
