The question presumes that GB is cynically promoting this unfavourable change in the Law, in order to gain votes.

As he is already Prime Minister, what ambition could he be harbouring? He could still hang on for two years, before an election needs to be called.

We are doing the Terrorists' job for them, by curtailing our own civil liberties. This will be misused by the Authorities, as with the ejection of Walter Wolfgang from the Labour Conference. Or the case of the Nat West Four.
