In the manufacture of steel shopping carts and metro shelves, is each junction welded or is 1 cord made . . .?

partially molten while the other solid cord is forced down into the semi-solid wire? I would think the latter, but would like to know for sure. Please only answer if you know definitively. I wil give major stars to the correct answerer.

  1. To make the square grid material, they actually pass the crossing layers of wire through a pair of electrified rollers. Current is passed through the wire at the points where they touch, spot-welding them.

    I saw this on an episode of "How It's Made".
