  1. I think the deal with the wire hangers was that she felt like Christina was being "unappreciative" of the lovely dresses she bought her by putting them on cheap wire hangers.  I think she strapped the brother down because he kept getting up out of bed at night. I don't think that she was sick or anything, I think that she was just a really mean alcoholic that is too self-centered and cared too much about her career.

  2. wire hangers - cos she hated them ,they'd tear the clothes and she expected good expensive clothing on good wooden hangers .

the bands around her head we to keep her hair pulled back ,for her makeup to avoid smudging.

frankly i reckon joan crawford may have been bipolar or schizophrenic cos she seemed frigging nuts [i believe she was nuts and bette davis was normal]

  3. Wire hangers are cheap and for the lower classes. She and her daughter were better than that in her mind

  4. she didnt like wire hangers because her mother beat her with them

  5. I heard somewhere that for a time, Joan Crawford's mom worked at a dry cleaners, where they had plenty of them.

My mom says wire hangers leave a permanent crease in silk, so padded hangers are better.

Her sickness?  Mainly alcoholism, or she could have been bi-polar.

  6. Because Joan preferred wood hangers as the wire ones are cheap and clothes do not hang well on them.

She had issues, lots of them.
