  1. tea

  2. eh...um...donuts?

  3. His weakness is, I suppose, caring too much--which gets him in major trouble. And also, on the other hand, wanting desperately to please, to be the one who gains favor with the witch by being the one to turn in the human girl. Other than that, though...yeah, tea. And playing that little flute.

  4. Mr. Tumnus is a deeply kind, caring individual.  But it is so, so hard to hold onto those silly "fairy stories" that we loved during childhood when everything around us seems to scream that it's just pretend.  Mr. Tumnus wants to be rational about things, and all around him it's still winter.  It's been winter his whole life.  Why would he believe in humans?  In Aslan?  What evidence is there for such things?

(Think about the books on his shelf--"Is Man a Myth" etc.)

Compare Tumnus' additude to that of the Beavers.  The Beavers were firmly, passionately on Aslan's side from the get-go.

So Tumnus agrees that if he ever meets a human, he will betray the person to the White Witch.

So what does Tumnus do when he does meet a human?  For a while, he continues with his original plan.  He tries to lure her into an enchanted sleep so that he can report her to the enemy.

    But then something changes.

In the book he says to Lucy (through tears) "I hadn't known what Humans were like before I met you."  He is touched by her sweet personality and feels guilty for what he plans on doing.

He is still full of doubt about the prophesies about Cair Paravel "I shall only be a statue of a faun until the four thrones are filled--and goodness knows when that will happen--or if it will ever happen."

The Beavers were able to hold onto their trust in Aslan, in Spring, and in goodness, despite what was happening around them.

Tumnus' big weakness is that it was a challenge to hold onto his belief in Aslan and His goodness.  It was a challenge to believe in Spring.  And this doubt led him to almost betray Lucy into the hands of the White Witch.
