In the navy what does SEA/OUTUS for 36 months mean? I am just going into the navy.?

I am a CTT so will I probably spend most time on a ship, or out of country like Japan?

Sea means you'll be on a ship. Outus means you will be stationed overseas. It's not hard to deal with. I did two tours overseas and had my choice of duty stations after wards.

Sea duty for 36 months followed by OCONUS duty for 36 months.   OCONUS is usually shore duty, but not always.  

every rating has a Sea/Shore rotation.   some ratings you are  required to do 5 years of sea duty( one ship, or sometimes 2 different ones) before getting 24-26 months of shore duty.

Other ratings it's pretty evenly spaced out..and still OTHERs are more duty stateside followed by duty in Japan, Korea, Italy, etc.  

a select few ratings( CTI and the Seabee ratings)  are NEVER PCS afloat..BUT these are also more likely to spend their time between CONUS and OCONUS and they deploy a lot more frequently for six months at a time.

The navy does 6 month cruises(Deployments) every 18-24 months on average. But they have ALOT of sea time even when they are not on deployments. 4 weeks out, 2 weeks in, 3 weeks out , 1 week in. 2 months out, a month in, then BAM you're deployed for 6 months(Sometimes more up to 7-9 months). Not as bad as the Army. MUCH safer. But if you dont want to be out to sea all the time, dont enlist.

Go Air Force instead.

It means sea duty on board a ship which is home ported overseas. Places like Sasebo Japan, Yokosuka Japan Bahrain Island and Naples Italy. It's a great way to interact with another people and culture without that long voyage to get there from a port in the States.
