because as I noticed in the rankings, alhough China got more than half of the gold medals so far, the US is ranked first although it has less golds.

  1. They are only ranked first in the US. Every where else in the world (look up local newspapers) - the US is second.

  2. Yahoo showed China on top a while ago when both US & China had 79 total medals. It showed China on top even though they both have the same count alphabetically.

  3. hmm, i thought it was gold, ill just look at our medals table, you can tell how bored i am. on mine it's done by golds, going

    China - 45 golds

    USA - 26 golds

    Great Britain - 16 golds

but USA has more points than china, and russia who are fourth, has more points than GB

  4. it is done by the amount of golds you win, it is only in the usa that the usa is first, they did not like the fact that they were loseing to china so they changed the rules, its okay the rest of the world knows that china is first

  5. Which counts more to you? There is no official national winner at the Olympics.

  6. They both count.  What you could do is add them up. 1st gets 3 points

2nd gets 2 and 3rd gets 1 and see who has the most points.China has 183 of my points, U.S. has 160, and in 3rd Russia with 85.

  7. China will win it since they will definitely end up having more gold than the US.   The US has to settle for second place even if they win the most medals, they are lacking in gold.  US has to wait to 2012 and will do much better.

  8. It depends on which tally board you're speaking about. Usually it's the gold medal count that most look at. However, since the US has been leading the overall count through most of the games the total count has been paid more attention.

Who remembers the silver and bronze medalists after the games have come and gone. Olympic champions are remembered.

i.e. who's going to remember Milorad Cavic (silver medalist) versus Michael Phelps (gold medalist)

    Hope this helps.

    Enjoy!

  9. By Gold Medals ; China

    By Total Medals ; USA

over all for the overall winner of the olympic games, i'm pretty sure they go by total medals, and if its a tie they go to gold.
