In the opening music to the TV series "Midsomer Murders", what is the main instrument?

I've always been curious about it, you'll probably hear it best on the start menus of the dvds.

Its not a clarinet, or an oboe (though they do feature in some of the other pieces).

Just curious cos it doesn't sound like any natural instrument i've heard.

according to wikipedia the instrument your hearing is called a theremin.
