  1. 9.69 seconds!

  2. Dunno! but they negative split the 200. It averages out to be 9.65 per 100m, so given that i'd guess 9.70 for the first 100 and 9.60 for the second

  3. Official split time for 1st 100m according to Steve Cram commentating on the BBC is 9.96 seconds. Which makes 2nd split 9.34. Michael Johnsons 2nd split was 9.2 which suggests Usain could have run the 2nd 100 faster, reckon he could go under 19.2. Also think he reached a higher max speed on the 100m, that bit when he surged in front just before he 'gave up' at the end but hard to know for sure without seeing all the 10metre splits for both races. Fastest 10 metre split I could find on the web was by Maurice Greene wh ran 50-60m in 0.82 seconds which is 27.28 mph. Reckon Usain probably topped that, anyone know where we can get 10m splits from for both of his races?

  4. When running the 200 meters, the first 100 meters is run on a curve, so the split time is always slower than it would otherwise be while running the 100 meters on a straightaway. While I don't have the actual splits, there's no way Usain would have run the first 100 meters of the 200 meter race with a time that would approach his 9.69 WR set in the 100 meter race. Michael Johnson's split in Atlanta were 10.12/9.20 when he ran the 19.32. The second 100 meters is usually faster because it's a running start. If the 200 meters was run on a straightaway for the full distance on a long enough track to accommodate such a race, for example, Usain would have run faster than 19.30.

  5. You guys have lame guesses. When running 19"32 in Atlanta, Johnson clocked 10"12 in the first 100 and 9"20 in the last 100. Namibia's Frankie Fredericks who finished second in 19"68 (and had a personal best of 9"86 in the 100 dash) clocked 10"14 + 9"54 thus adding up to 19"68. It is more probable that Usain ran his first 100 in about 10 flat. You should also remember that the first 100 is run on a curb, so you lose about 2 to 3 tenths of a second. I'll get back to you as soon as i get his real split times. I already got his for the 100, and they are just amazing.

  6. Generally the second 100m split is faster than the first, because they don't start from zero.

So, just to make a guesstimate, let's suppose he ran the first 100 meters in the same time he ran them in the 100m event, that would be 9.69. (He probably didn't, but it's just a guess)

So, subtract 19.30 - 9.69, and that would give us 9.61 for the second split.

However, I am more tempted to think it might have been something like 9.75 and 9.55, considering that the reaction time affects the first 100m, but not the second.

This section is an edit to my post, because it got me thinking: When Michael Johnson ran 19.32 in 1996, the second split should have been a heck of a run, since the World Record for 100m was 9.84, he might have ran the second split between 9.4 and 9.5 sec!

  7. I guess his first 100 was 10.10 and the second was 9.20

  8. something like 9.4
