In the show Trading Spaces, What wood material does the show use to build the furniture in their projects?

If not sure what light weight wood or wood substitute can I use to create a book case?

I love this show and they you MDF. It is fairly cheap and easy to use.

I'm pretty sure in most of the shows they used MDF or Medium Density Fiberboard.
