Do you have to be embalmed be for your buried, in the state of California? If your not embalmed, how long before you have too be buried?

  1. I cant answer Cali's. law on that but I just learned of "Green Cemeteries" there in San Fran Sis co. Beautiful thing.


  2. No. By California law you do not have to be embalmed. It is done as a matter of standard practice by funeral homes. There are very few cemeteries that will allow burial of an unembalmed person. And fewer will allow you to be buried without a coffin and a vault. There is a cemetery near San Francisco area that has set aside an area that will allow you to be buried unembalmed, and without a casket or even a grave marker if you so wish.

  4. Maybe by law. However you still can bury someone without embalming them and at any time you chose. So do you HAVE to embalm or bury them? NO, but it might be a good idea too be.
