You must be 18 to obtain a credit card.  You can get a debit card for either your savings account or checking account.  There is no age limit to open either one.

A credit card is a type of contract. The bank agrees to let you purchase things on a "buy now- pay later" approach and you agree to actually pay them later.

You have to be 18 to legally enter into a contract.
