In the state of California is there a law that children 12 and under need to wear a life jacket just to be?

around the water.....no boating or jet ski I am talking about just swimming. Somebody told me this is true but I looked it up and I can't find any information.

  1. Sounds odd, i can see it in a boat but not in a pool.


  2. In Sacramento county it is.

    Children 12 and under need to wear a life jacket when around a river or lake.

    I do not think it applies to private pools.

    We have had way to many young kids drown in the river this year.  There were 3 over the Memorial Day weekend alone.

  3. Just to swim? That has got to be the biggest load of bull I've ever heard!

    If children under 12 had to wear a life jacket when swimming, there goes the 5-12 year old age group on swim teams!

    The fact that you looked it up and couldn't find anything is proof that whoever told you this was a) full of bull or b) misunderstood a different law or something.
