In the state of Florida, does Citizens Insurance cover damages done by a dog?

My dog was attacked by a neighbors dog. I ended up being hurt in the process due to a fall. I am suing them for medical expenses, but just heard that their insurance company (Citizens Ins) doesn't cover damages done by an animal. Does anyone know if this is true?

  1. Are you actually suing, or have you just filed a claim against the dog owner's home owner's insurance?  If you fell on their property, then there medical payment coverage should reimburse you for your medical expenses regardless of fault.

If you are looking for something more, then you have to prove that they were legally liable for your injury.  Their Bodily injury coverage helps to pay for the expenses incurred in the event that a physical injury to others is caused by you, residents of your household, or your pets.

However, I am not familiar with Citizens Insurance.  Ask the adjuster to send you the actual exclusion.  It is possible that the dog was extremely aggressive and had to be insured by way of endorsement, but your neighbor did not do so.

  2. It only pays dogs when people bite them.

  3. it depends what they put on their insurance.  It is probably true.  I'd ask a lawyer.  The first visit is usually free.

If they don't you may have to take them to small claims court which is easy.  See how many are on TV. LOl
