  1. Capitalism ! always there though it may change forms.Hope for a nice one.

  2. Capitalism is the investment of capital into the means of production. Do you think those nanobots are going to create the raw products out of thin air? Will they build the factories out of thin air? Someone must invest the capital, and that is what capitalism is.

Forget the dirty scoundrel who underpays his employees and lets them starve. That has nothing to do with investing capital.

That has to do with ethics that would apply to anyone who believed in doing ill by others.

  3. Will the nanobots perform lap dances?

  4. Actually yaoi makes a good point, though I would say that capital and capitalism are two separate terms, one referring to resources and the other to an economic theory.

I have spent some time thinking about what resources would prove useful if ever such levels of technical and engineering prowess are ever realized by humankind.

I am of the opinion that garbage will become a great source of raw material, along with sewage and definitely nuclear waste.

I want to explain why I think nuclear waste will be very important.

It is a very heavy element and a sufficient level of nanotech would be able to form lighter exotic elements from spent nuclear rods.

If you are still young and plan to invest it might not be a bad idea to invest in nuclear waste storage companies, as it may well one day prove to provide huge returns.

  5. Wasn't that the premise of "Forbidden Planet" in which a technology made action unnecessary?  The device took thoughts and made them manifest without instrumentality.  The downside was that it also made real the product of the subconscious.

I suppose, when the genii exists, you do not need to work, pay, spend, make any effort.  Wouldn't that be a living h**l?  To live without goals.  To live without challenges.  No more mountains to climb.  No more needs.  No more desires.  To live without hope or love or dreams.

I hope I never live to see the day.
