In these times of economic slowdown?

French leader Nicolas Sarkozy has scrapped the 35 hour week and has told his workers any hours worked over 35 will be tax free!

What a brilliant idea!

Can you see Brown and Darling allowing us to work extra hours without them taxing us to death in the process, I refuse to do overtime as the majority of it gets taxed and i see very little.

Do you think the french idea is good?

Your thoughts please.

  1. Good idea but how would they police the self employed? If there is a short week then a busy long week will they take the average or will they penalise us for what they would interpret as manipulating the system? I have no faith.

  2. It is indeed  - thanks for that - that's an idea the Conservatives might take seriously when they get in even though Labour won't

  3. This is old news!!! And it's now cheaper for companies to pay people to work overtime, rather than to employ new staff. And will working longer hours really improve peoples quality of life?

  4. A brilliant idea! It would help boost the economy, and the harder you work the more you get paid, what a concept. Obama might try something like that, McCain would forget to vote for it, or vote the party line against it.

  5. Yes, a great idea. What a superb way of kick starting the economy! They pick and choose which of the EU Regulations to adhere to and stick two fingers up to Brussels at the same time.

As much as I despise much of what the French do, this is a masterstroke - one which our current government will be too damned scared to imitate.

  6. It wont work, the people themselves will see to that.

Work halfarsed during the week to get the overtime on the weekends..TAXFREE....riiight.

    Companys will go bust overnight..

  7. Really! And what is he going to tell his masters in Brussels when they start shouting about it? Never mind, the French were always good at making the rules but never using them!

  8. That seam a great idea where do i sign up. But no doubt someone will provide an economic argument against it

  9. Having lived in France, I can safely say that just about everything political is better there.

They all have Wednesday afternoons off too, much nicer to work an extra hour on the other four days and have that break!!
