  3. This is scary no matter where you live.  It's not just the staph bacteria that is changing; its all bacteria.  The more antibiotics we use, the more resistant bacteria will become.

In my biology class last semester, we grew E. coli in triclosan (a biocide that kills any type of cell) and within a week, it was resistant to it.  Can you imagine a world where antibiotics don't work?  Its really scary.

    To Captsnuf:

Antibiotics are produced by fungi.  The genes that are used for this production are inserted into bacteria, like E. coli, and the antibiotic is produced.  New antibiotics will be produced when the fungi start producing them.  As far as I know, scientists have not created any antibiotics.

  4. we have it here in the states too, according to news sources.

EDIT: the pharmacutical companys will have to quit pampering their ceos and get off their fat money grubbing @$$es and develope new and different antibiotics...with all the profits they've made off designer drugs that we should "ask our doctor if it is right for you"

  5. I hadn't heard about it until last night when my hubbie (who is over in the UK at the moment) told me, I am going to look at the website you gave- now.

    Thx
