  1. yep, not like in the old days

    but as long as there is a free way to ride

    people will do it


  2. If you mean, jumping on freight trains, yes, it's still done, but it is extremely dangerous.  If you're not hurt or killed, you can easily end up in jail or beat up.

  4. chicago has a lot rails and known for the biggest city to have rail service.  if you mean hobo's than it might be slim but who really knows.

Since 9/11 security has stepped up on Americas rails especially on the borders.We still get riders but they don't usually get very far.The border patrol searches most of our trains looking for illegal aliens.As far as what were called hobos they are very rare to encounter.Trespassers on railroad property are usually arrested these days.Word gets around so most people find other ways to travel. Jumping on trains for a ride is a very dangerous practice.I've seen more than one hauled off in the meat wagon.
