Question:

In todays society, when do girls stop playing with dolls?

this is an ongoing debate with my girlfriend...

ok here's what happened.. she was showing me childhood pictures, and she was at a park, holding a doll - she was 10 years old.. i said "weren't you a bit old for that?" ... it continued on by me saying " i doubt my daughter at 10 will be playing with dolls"... my justification is that with internet, technology, tv etc.. kids grow up faster ... and get bored quicker - they need more stimulation...

i just posted a similar question, most said it was normal ( in the past) .. now question is rephrased - is it normal today?

  1. i stopped when i was about 8 or 9. but it was partially because everyone stopped so it was kind of embarrassing for me to say i still liked dolls at 10. but it depends when it was. if it was about 10 to 15 years ago i would say most girls would stop at 10 or 11.

  2. Well, I don't remember my age exactly. But I have a sister who is 11, going into sixth grade, and she still plays with toys with her other 11 year old friends. But my other sister who is 13 doesn't. So probably somewhere around that age.

  3. 9?

  4. well When I was eight or nine Bratz dolls just started to come into britain and I had loads but when I got to 11 then I think I stopped although I did sometimes take them out and brush hair!! i think dolls are something that girls of all ages play occasionally but at teenage-hood they stop and move onto make up and hair on themselves instead of on their dolls. Dolls are a miniature version of yourself so when girls get older then they look at themselves like dolls always making themselves perfect with fashion, make up, hair dye, piercings and suchlike.

    I'm 12 going on 13

  5. It is normal today and was normal back then. Some girls stop playing with dolls early, some keep playing with them till they are a lot older and some never play with dolls at all. It's all about personal preference, there's no specific age.

EDIT: I am 15 and I collect dolls. I only just started. I used to collect porcelain dolls but swapped to normal toy dolls as they're prettier and can sit anywhere. At the moment I have 2 on my bed and while I collect them for decoration I still take them out every once and awhile and play with them. You know, give them a cuddle, that sort of thing.

  6. My daughter is 10 and is starting to slow down with doll playing but she does it on occasion.

  7. i stopped playing with barbies at 12. now little girls grow up faster i would say around 8 or 9. they have all this technology that corrupts their mind and take their innocence away... very sad.

  8. Have you heard of American Girl dolls?  They're wildly popular, and they're geared toward girls aged 8-12.  So a 10-year-old is well within the doll-playing years.  In fact, a lot of girls never outgrow dolls.  I once took my daughter to a doll show, and the place was packed - not with children, but with 50 and 60 year old women!

  9. I don't think it is as normal today to have a 10 year old girl playing with dolls, but that being said, even with internet and paytv, etc, my 13 yr old sister on occassions whips out her Bratz dolls to play with

  10. My daughter is 10 and loves her dolls . i think i would love to see her play with her dolls as long as possible, i was around 13 when i stopped playing with dolls, i do not think there is a set age when it stops its up to the girl in question
