  1. There's no "magic number" before they investigate you. The RIAA and so forth try and attack people who they think will get their message out the best (ie kids, single mothers, old people) more or less indiscriminately. They're being investigated as much of the evidence that they've provided has been attained by illegal surveillance.

Basically, the only way you can be sure you won't be prosecuted is by not doing any illegal downloading. However, it's not really worth worrying because its less than a fraction of a percent of the illegal downloaders who get caught.

What you really should take into consideration is your opinion of the artists you are ripping off. If you like their music so much, why don't you pay for it? I downloaded illegally a lot when i was younger, but now i pay for my music because i want to support the artists.

  2. SO much misinformation here. What happens is groups like MediaDefender get paid by the MPAA and RIAA to host fake torrents for certain things the studios want to protect. These groups post fake torrents on public trackers, and basically grab the IP of anyone who seeds. Occasionally, lawsuits are handed out to these IPs as a public deterrence against file sharing. To avoid this, use private trackers and avoid very popular albums or movies. Instead, reach more from back catalogues, but again not from top artists like Pink Floyd.

Also, based upon leaked mediadefender internal memos, the paid vigilantes have ABGSOLUTELY NO WAY of knowing how much you upload or download in general, only how much you upload or download on their bogus torrents.

Oh, and bogus torrents often do contain the real playable album or movie, just so you know.

  3. I don't think that there is a number. But I am not sure right now. I think that they would have started arresting everyone if they investigated. There are a lot of people that use torrents. They wouldn't just go after one person. They would have also added something like a tracking device or something else that could lead them to you. By them I am talking about the FBI. If you have questions or need help contact me at Sanchezr@hargray.com for the number of torrents. I do not have my work manual handy so I will look for it and reply to your email once found.
