Question:

In trying to install a linksys wireless router, i am unable to get beyond step #8. Any suggestions?

  1. Plug the cable from the modem into the Internet jack on the router (the one near the reset button).  Plug the computer into one of the numbered jacks on the router if you're going to use a wired connection.  Plug the power cord into the router.  Plug the other end into the wall.

    The router is "installed".  DON'T "install" anything else for the router.

    Now, on your computer, get it connected to the router.  (Install the wireless or ethernet driver, if needed.)  DON'T install Linksys software, just drivers, *IF*.you have Linksys cards in the computer.  Once you can connect to the router (http://192.168.1.1/ ), you can set up wireless security, MAC-address filtering, etc.

    (The reason to not install Linksys software is that Windows Wireless Zero Cofiguration is the better program.  It's there by default, and installing the Linksys program disables Wireless Zero.)
