  1. your cervix dilates

  2. Nothing, when someone says they were so many centimenters dialated they are talking about their cervix, when your in labor your cervix slowly opens all the way to 10 centimeters, that way the baby can fit through it!

  3. i need more information. all i can tell you is that you have to be dialated 10 cm before you can start pushing.  and you have to dialate on your own,  unless you are progressin too slow then they give you sumthin, its a drug cant think of the name right now though, it makes your contractions worse and more painful!

  4. What?

Your cervix dilates open to make room for the baby coming out. Once your cervix is 10 cm. dilated then it's time to push.

  5. The cervix opens.

  6. The cervix is the lowerpart of the uterus.  It is designed to open wide  when baby is being born.

  7. Nobody does anything.  It opens on its own so the baby can pass through to the uterus.

Your cervix also opens when you have your menstral period, so that the shedding matter can pass through, and this opening is what gives you cramps in your period.  It is a sure sign your "upper v****a" is working to help you rid yourself of the shed matter.  Of course, after your first child birth, your cervix should have widened permanently, so that you have less or no cramps when you menstrate.

  8. It dilates.  Meaning it opens up and the baby comes out of it.  Please tell me you aren't pregnant and are just finding out how the female body works.

  9. They dont' DO anything.  The cervix opens during labor, and the opening allows the baby to pass through.  (That's what labor IS -- the contractions are what opens the cervix.)

  10. As the uterus contracts the cervix is slowly opened and it thins out.  When you are said to be 10cm dilated it means you are able to push the baby out.  If the midwife or doctor does an internal they can feel if your cervix is 10cm opened or not.

If you try to push when you are not fully dilated (opened) the babies head will often just be pushed up against the cervix.
