but, what if the player is tall enough and just stands at the net and reaches up with his hands and doens't swing forward but "blocks" it back over? Is there a rule about doing that, can someone do that if they are below the net, above the net????

  1. it happen, n its not aganist d rule

  2. sorry hun but you cant block the serve or attack it.meaning spike it or block it. you can set  it but i would say not to cuz it will either go throw your hands or be called a lift..you can block the spikes and tips and all them but thats about it.

  3. you cannot block server period the ball cannot be touched until it is 3 ft into your side of the court or something like that

  4. you can do that as long as your feet don't leave the ground

  5. u can not block a serve at all!!! that is a penality agains ur team and the other team will automatically get a point.

  6. You cannot no matter what the circumstances block a serve!

  7. Blocking by definition has nothing to do with jumping.  Standing and reaching above the net and contacting the ball while the ball is still completely above the height of the net is still considered to be blocking.  To be considered to be a blocker, you have to be "close" to the net.  If you did what looked like a block and you were standing at the 3 meter line, it would be considered the first contact of the team and would be legal on the serve.   If part of the ball drops slightly below the top of the net and you contact it, it would be the first team contact and legal on the serve.

You can not attack the serve while it is completely above the height of the net AND the ball is in front of the 3 meter line.  (Please note I did not say if you were front row or back row.  The ball position is the only important thing.)

  8. a serving fault is considered when:

A player blocks the serve or attacks the serve when the ball is in the front zone and above the top of the net.

  9. The newer rule says that you cannot "attack" the serve in front of the 10-ft line AND at a spot higher than the top of the net, which includes blocking the serve, hitting the serve back.

You may call a quick attack and have your setter push it up and your middle hitter (or your tall-enough player) hit it down.

As a side note, if you bump the ball back to your opponent's court at a spot lower than the top of the net, there should be no fault call.

  10. No that is against the rules in volleyball.  Even if you stand there and hold your hands above the net, that is still considered a block.  The ball has to successfully be passed not blocked to start the play.  That would be awesome if you could do that though. Haha

  11. you can't block the serve period

  12. you CANT block the serve, you can however set it but it has to stay on your side of the net unless you push it not just block
