In volleyball - what does it mean when they say I made first cut?

Many volleyball try outs have multiple stages in the try out process.

When they say that you made the first "cut," it is the same as staying that you have made it through the first stage, or phase of the try outs.

usually there is more than one tryout, first cut is when you make it past the first tryout. and they keep having tryouts until they have the right amount of players

Your team is having multiple "cuts" meaning that you made it through to the next set of practices and tryouts until the next "cut." It's a good thing.
