  1. it's called a "net violation" and the other team gets a point (in rally scoring volleyball) - in "old volleyball" (side out volleyball) the other team would get the serve, or if they already had the serve, they'd get a point.

In some places (Europe I believe, but I'm not sure where else), ones hair is considered an extension of they body. So, if you had long hair in a pony tail, and your hair hit the net - it'd be considered a net violation as well.

A friend of mine had a chance to goto Europe one summer with her college team, and they toured with the Finnish National team, and played a series of matches.

The setter had long hair, which she had braided into a ponytail. Everytime she ran up to the net, she turned around, and swung her head around to look back at her team. As she did that, her hair would hit the net - and she'd get called for a net violation.

Finally she had to resort to putting her hair into buns - a la Princess Lea from Star Wars.

  2. The other team will get the point

  3. Generally, it is a sideout or point depending on the circumstance and scoring.

But It does depend on the circumstance. If the net moves into the player, because the ball strikes it and it moves from it's normal position, there is no foul charged. In fact, one useful technique is to place your hands directly in front of the net when a ball is coming toward the net on the other team's hit. You use your hand to dampen the ball's bounce and reduce the chance of the other team being able to get the ball over on the next hit.

  4. If you touch the net then it´s a fault and a point is awarded to the other team (during rally scoring).  There is an obscure rule I think that if the ball is in the back court and it´s the player´s clothing or hair...and doesn´t affect the play then it´s legal...but most refs just whistle at any movement.

  5. fault

  6. The point goes to the other team.

  7. It is consideered a fault and the other team gets a point and can serve

  8. If you are rally scoring, then the other team gets a point and gets to serve next. Never toch the net. It's youe safest bet.

  9. We like to call out the expression "tuna" (caught in the net, get it?)

The referee calls a side out and the ball goes to the other team. The ball can hit the net, but not a player's body.

  10. it okey unless the player wont touch the net. if he/ she touches the net, its a foul.

  11. They fasten a 10lb. brass ingot to your codpiece.

  12. it is the other teams ball

  13. the referees will call it and the other team will get the ball and point.

  14. well the referee will blow the whistle and the other team will get the point..!=)

  15. they get little square lines on their back

  16. The ref would call it and the point would go to the other team. Especially if your foot steps over the line then you also loose the point. Fault.

  17. its a fault...and the other team gains a point and gets the serve, if they didnt have it before!

  18. Its a fault... unless the player is blocking, the ball hits the net and moves it toward the player's hands.. then they keep the play (if the ball goes over the net).  And it hurts like #@#%@#%!!!!

I still have the markings on my arms.

  19. you lose the point
