  1. non-harmful (physically) side effects. or mental health i guess. there was one antidepressant that actually caused depressed people to commit suicide. i'd call that an unacceptable side effect.

  2. side effects are fine.....its the placebo effect they don't want to talk about.

it seems as though we almost want side effects as physiological proof that we have received actual medicine.  those that have the ability to believe that they are receiving medication and understand what it is supposed to do for them appear in many cases to produce the heeling from there mental state.

  3. "Acceptable Side Effects" is relative to the person engaging in the clinical trial.  For one person, hair loss may be acceptable whereas for another person, it may be totally unacceptable.  It's whatever you feel comfortable with.  Don't be afraid to the doctor interviewing you any questions.

  4. Side effects that the vast majority of participants are willing to overlook and continue taking the drug.  This depends on what the drug treats.  Chemotherapy can have awful side effects that people with cancer find acceptable, but people with migraines wouldn't.
