i see thats a good deal. but are in wall speakers as good as bookshelf speakers? i dont want them in the wall, i want them to sit on a desk. and are they really thin? thank you

  1. I think that the enclosure on a speaker is of great importance on the overall sound quality.

    Installing them in the wall is good for looks or convenience, not for best quality.

    Well made cabinets are anti resonant; boost lows; and dampen the speaker cone, such that lows are "tighter" and "cleaner".

    For rear surround, they may be OK, since they are there to "fill" the room.

    You could get small speakers with a sub-woofer. They won't take much space on your desk, and the sub can be under your desk.

    Logitech (I think model Z-5500) makes a 5.1 system for about $300, with superb sound quality.
