Question:

In weed wiping a herbicide soaked "blanket" or wick is used. What is the best material to use for the wick?

The point of weed wiping is that the taller weeds can be coated with herbicide, but the useful shorter grasses and clovers will not be destroyed because the "blanket" is set some inches above the ground.

  1. You can buy  'weed wipers'   they usually have a polypropylene rope fitted into   a plastic frame ,  had a couple in the shed a few years ago,  gave them to my brother, I think.  

    Anyway,  if you are attempting  to make your own then   carpet off-cuts work quite well,  you have to make sure that your delivery system for the chemical is a drip style applicator though  or you will flood the carpet off-cuts and allow unwanted dripping, hence none targeted plants will get damaged....

    The carpet off-cuts  are mounted on a frame of say wire,  the carpet being cut to length, then folded with the drip-line inserted into the fold of the carpet,  my own design, works well.
