I don't really understand your question. The Aztecs, according to their mythology, left a place called Aztlán in search of a new homeland. That is why they were called Aztecs. They populated a small island in the middle of (what was once a much larger than now) Lake Texcoco. They founded a town called Tenochtitlan which later became a city. Their power in the Mexico Valley grew and they began to call their country Méxcio and themselves themselves Mexica. The X is pronounced as the English SH. The Aztec/Mexicas and most of their nearby neighbors spoke a language called Náhuatl. México is a compound word in Náhuatl which means place in the Moon's navel becuase the contour of the lakes in the Mexico Valley at the times was similar to the shape of the spots on the moon and the islet where Tenochtitlan was built was in the middleof it all. Another etymology is that  it derives from Mexctli, and alternate name given to the Aztecs' principal god, Huitzilopochtli meaning in the navel (center) of the maguey cactus. The maguey cactus is an important national symbol in modern Mexico. A sacred fermented drink was/is made from the maguey plant. The blue agave from which tequila is made is a variety of maguey.

Here i go...

Aztlan was the homeland of Aztecs it was located according to various writers in the state of Nayarit, west in Mexico, and.... according with the legend they were told by a god, Hutzilopochtli i guess to look for a new location to build their city, it took them several years of wondering to finally locate the place their god meant, it was on the Texcoco lake, where now you find Mexico city
