I am trying to figure out in what countries I will be able to work in if I do my airline pilot training in the USA. I know that it is the FAA that regulates licensing, but do any other countries accept those licenses ?

  1. its a globally recognised authority. not counting war zones-anywhere.

  2. To work in Europe you would need to convert the FAA license to a JAR license.

  3. Of course I don't know about ALL countries, but as far as Canada goes, you will need a Canadian license to fly for compensation.

    Been there, done that

  4. Your American FAA license allows you to fly airplanes in every single ICAO member state.  However, many of those countries have requirements that companies based IN those countries must ensure their pilots are certificated by that particular country.

Therefore:  You can fly for an American company to Europe, but if you want to fly for a European company, you would need European certificates (the JAR listed above).

There are companies that are based in America that contract in other countries.  Those pilots need to be certificated by the US government because the company's operating certificate was issued by the US.

  5. A lot of Asian and Middle Eastern airlines will hire with an ICAO license.  An FAA license qualifies as an ICAO license.  Some example nations are Singapore, South Korea, Taiwain, China, India, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, etc.  If you want to fly in Europe, you'll need to convert to JAR, which is an enormous pain in the ***.
