  1. Well, east is over the mountains, west is across the valley, south is toward the lake and north is on the way to my sisters.  


  2. Depends what direction you are facing to start with and where you are. If you are at the North Pole, then everywhere around you will be south.

  3. Look at a map or a globe. North is the top and South is the bottom. East is the right and West is the left. Hold your compass so that N is aligned with the top of the map. And the rest follows from there.

  4. North points directly to the north pole.  It's the direction that the magnet's needle points in.

    East is the direction you'd be in if you were going north and took a right hand turn.

    West would be the direction if you took a left hand turn when travlling north.

    South would be the direction if you turned and went in the opposite direction.

    Starting at north and going clockwise, the directions are north, east, south and west - remembered by a army of school children by Naughty Elephants Squirt Water.
