  1. The image recorded on a regular DVD is 640x480 pixels (4:3), with each frame having a complete picture (progressive scan).  Widescreen movies are recorded onto DVD by "squeezing" the width to fit into 640 pixels (also called anamorphic).  When the DVD player is told that the TV is a widesrceen, it stretches the picture to fit.

  2. ★★★★★★★★★★★★

DVD movie is encoded by MPEG2 standard. And your video will be converted into .IFO, .VOB,.BUP files.

If you just wanna enjoy your video on dvd player, it's unnecessary to know details about this. There are tons of smart DVD burner, like wondershare video to dvd burner. They can convert video files to dvd files and burn them onto blank dvd disc by a few clicks.

  3. Normal 480p DVD videos are in a 4:3 ratio.

**  Some DVD disc will have an option of playing a Wide Screen format of 16:9 ratio using a menu or changing to the other side of the disc.

  4. I use to know for sure, trying to remember though i think the files that are on dvd movie are VOB.

  5. DVD format is VOB and MPEG-2 format.

If you don't know how to convert video to DVD for playback on normal DVD player, you may refer to this step by step guide, it works pretty well for me.
