I want to cut off a branch, transport it six hours and graft it to another peach tree. What do I put the stem in? What would be the best time of year? Is there a putty, or what? to put over and protect the graft site?

  1. Put a cup of water into a waterproof plastic bag and rubberband or tie it over the base of the limb.  You will still want to make a fresh cut when you are ready for the actual grafting but this will keep the limb fresh while you transport it.  Late winter or early spring before blossom is the time for grafting and there are many different products from tree wound coating and moss to tapes and budding strips that can be used for the graft itself.

  2. water?
