i guess English is the dominant language, but French adn Chinese are also very largely used.

Currently it is English. However, certain subjects are dominated by papers in other subjects and language trends change. At one time, Latin was almost the only language for publication. During the late 19th century, you had to know German.

Scientific material is written in many languages.  But English remains the publishing language that dominates mathematics and science research.
