The Plant doctor's idea seems like it might work, but like many i am not a gardener. I have a massive weed and insect problem, and very little grass. Is there any way someone can tell me step by step how to save my lawn?

  1. Go to the Leap Over Web Clutter section here... http://newfreebooks.com The second link in the "Grow anything" will get you to the info you need.

  2. Weed and feed would save you the most time since it would be one application....

As for the insecticide do that as soon as possible. It won't hurt to do them all at the same time though....

If you are going to lay more soil, I would do that first. That will help to stop some of the weeds immediatly. But right after be sure to spray your weed and feed so that it can kill the weeds as it emerges through the new soil. Plus the soil will keep it low while it dies and then you won't have any unsightly brown spots of dead weeds!

  3. okay..so you want to kill your insects first because they are eating everything and it will save whatever grass you have left...then you will want to put a weed and feed fertilizer down...then it will be a constant battle of killing weeds...getting a little grass to grow...killin weeds...getting a little grass to grow...and so on....hope that helps.

  4. I'll make it simple for you.

1-Kill Insects now; Depending on the insect, need to find out what insect is eating your lawn.  It may be a disease.

**-Use a insect control that is a granular and that has a fertilizer in it

2- Two weeks after use a selective herbicide.  Go to lowes/home depot and get a weed control spray.  Like one you can put at the end of your hose and spray the whole turf grass area. Do not spray at temperatures above 85 degrees! You will burn your lawn

3- So then come early september use a good topsoil, NO fill dirt

and put down seed to make up for the loss of turf since you had insects.  Water, water, water.
