My fiancee and I are considering looking into Natural Family Planning. I am still looking into it, but being a guy, I know nothing about the menstrual cycle. At what point, in relation to when she has her period, is she most fertile, and when is she least fertile?

  1. It depends on how long the cycle, check  this Ovulation calculator that might help you figure it out.

  2. i wud like to know this as well. but she's most fertile when olvulating tho idk when this wud be for her since every woman is different. but you can tell if you count the days from the beggining pf her period to the beggining of her next period. from there its one of the days in the middle tho idk that part. *must find out* and u just avoid having s*x those days or be cautious and use extra protection or contraceptives.

  3. If her cycle is regular--coming regularly in intervals of 28 days, 30 days, etc.--then she would ovulate about midway of her cycle.

For example:  28 day cycle (means it's 28 days between periods), ovulation would occur on about the 14th day.  So she COULD be "fertile" for a day or two before and a day or two after that day.  Reason being is the sperm can "hang around for a couple days" just "waiting on the egg.  The egg itself is vital for 12-24 hours..I've heard 12 hrs and 24 hrs, so we'll say between the two.

If her cycle is shorter or longer, then just find the midway point between periods to "estimate" her time of ovulation.

    Hope this helps.
