  1. You got that right! I work at a pretty tough school - I feel it is my moral duty to be the best model possible for those kids. That means: to always greet them with a smile and a handshake at the door; to sincerely ask them how they are - and listen attentively while they tell me; to remain calm and collected when they make smart a** remarks or don't have anything with them (no paper, pencil, textbook or homework!)

Funny thing is...when I'm feeling really bad and still do these things...I begin to feel better.

    (I just love my job!)

  2. Acting isn't really aqbout pretending to be happy or energetic.  (The truth is, you're going to have bad days when you just can't "fake it."  If you have a good relationship with your students, you don't have to, either.) Actually, a teacher has to be an actor in the sense that you should be "performing" for your students.  This means that you need to have energy and enthusiasm for your subject.  Sometimes it means that you have to step outside of our comfort zone to keep our students' attention or help them understand a point.  For example, I've burst out into song or exagerated movement when illustrating a point.  When I read outloud, I use dramatic reading strategies to emphasize points.  I use inflection, emotion, and voice, to express characterization.

  3. Helping the students she thinks are idiots or delinquents.
