If you've gone to the company site, there's no real way to get discounted tickets. Much unlike air lines, Amtrak's fares are pretty much set.

On the main Amtrak website, there's a hidden little gem called Weekly Specials, which gives discounts on selected routes each week. You can find it at:

There's also promotional codes available at various times, this site:

has some from a while back, but also check Google for sites listing them.

The sooner you get your tickets, the cheaper they'll be.  The cheap seats fill up early.
